As far as controls are concerned, users can alternate between green and grayscale imagery, as well as toggle low-range and high-range imaging. When you first pick up the goggles, the weight of the rear battery pack seems like it could pose a serious comfort problem, but it is padded and when the headset is on and the straps are tightened, the battery pack is hardly noticeable. The battery pack bears most of the weight of the unit, while the goggles are extremely lightweight as to not add sizable strain on the user's face. The battery pack rests at the back of the user's head and is connected to the goggles through rubbery straps. The construction is broken down into two major parts – the goggles and battery pack. To that end, Infinity Ward and their unnamed manufacturing partner were wise in limiting the number of movable parts on the unit, making it less prone to breaks. From what we've learned about the goggles, the design was produced in collaboration directly with Infinity Ward and based on in-game night vision hardware. Naturally, the night vision goggles are constructed from various types of plastic, not combat-ready metal composites, but for all intents and purposes, the plastic casing is durable enough. With that said, for the extra cash, the night vision goggles are pretty damn impressive. Has the cost night vision technology dropped enough to make including goggles in a bundle like the Prestige Edition a worthwhile endeavor, or is it just a gimmick for Call of Duty fans and collectors? The answer, it seems, is somewhere in between.įirst off, gauging the quality of the Prestige edition night vision goggles should be grounded firmly by the realization that these, along with a Soap MacTavish bust for displaying them, are accounting for only $69.99 of the total market value of the bundle, with the Hardened edition game and packaging accounting for the remaining $79.99. What does the Prestige edition offer players that the standard and Hardened editions don't? Well, for $149.99 ($70 more than the Hardened edition), players get everything provided in the hardened and standard editions, as well as a fully functional pair of night vision goggles. While the game comes in both regular and "Hardened" editions for all platforms, only those buying for the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 can get their hands on the "Prestige" edition.
